Maggie Fraser,
joint secretary of GAS had her dream come true on Saturday, November 26,
2005 - that day marked the launch of the DVD and booklet "The Butcher,
the Baker & the Tablecloth Maker," the climax of the Persephone
Project.
Maggie, Grace, Liz Williamson
and myself, along with our fantastic DVD designer,
Sandy Noble, were
invited by the Howe Festival organisers to promote the DVD at the start
of their week in Laurencekirk. Maggie presented copies of the
DVD to all the contributors and helpers and we showed the multimedia
treasure that is now known as 'The Butcher the Baker & the Tablecloth
Maker."
The disk features
reminiscences, stories, songs, photos, which represents the oral and
cultural history of the Mearns. Maggie herself discovered that her own
family on both sides were originally 'folk o the Mearns' and said that
no-one can call her an in-comer now, as she has merely returned home!
It was an emotionally
rich day; the locals met up with friends from long ago, the children from
Auchenblae loved the storytelling in the afternoon in the village hall
there, and North Tonight journalist Chris Harvie found himself
helping out with Grace's tale of the two hump-backed brothers.
Thanks to Chris for being a good sport! The Howe Festival was
continuing over this weekend, and we thank the organisers for letting us
launch the DVD there!

The Icing on the Cake' - literally!
Liz Williamson provided a lovely
cake to celebrate the launch and the Festival, but cleverly kept the
icing - a work of art in itself - separate.

And here is Persephone hersel'!
This beautiful statue was christened Persephone after the Greek
legend, but she represents the Saracen maid who was murdered by her
Templar Knight lover. She can be found across from the Maiden Stone
near Pitcaple
